Sophomore Ismael Tatis was the star of the show in game two of the doubleheader, tossing a no-hitter allowing just four walks and notching four strikeouts. He also had two hits and four RBIs in the game, making it the best game of his career at John Jay. This was Tatis’ third career start on the mound for John Jay, and he didn’t disappoint. Tatis improved his record to (1-2) on the season, with 15IP and a 3.60ERA.

Jose Paulino is the newest member of the Fisher College Athletics HOF, being elected with the 2022 HOF Class.

Hailing from Lawrence Mass, Jose arrived at Fisher college in 2010 eager to compete at the college level and play the game he loved. Paulino made an immediate impact as a part time player as a freshmen, batting .302 in over 50Ab’s. Paulino would go on to be a full time starting shortstop for the next three years, and when all said and done Paulino would help the Fisher Baseball program win 107 games in a four year span, all while batting .291avg, 138H, .375OBP.

To nobody’s surprise, junior Ryan Qualey of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth baseball team was tabbed the Little East Conference (LEC) Pitcher of the Week.

From Woburn, Mass., Qualey threw a gem in UMass Dartmouth’s 1-0 game two win against Southern Maine. The right-handed pitcher delivered his first-career complete-game shutout and notched a career high with 12 strikeouts to improve to 2-0 on the year.

Qualey cruised through a dangerous Southern Maine lineup, forcing eight groundouts and six flyouts. Qualey got better as the game went on, he struck out one batter in the first, second, fourth, seventh, and eighth innings, picked up two K’s in the fifth and sixth, and retired the side in the third.

After an opening day sweep at Farmingdale State Sunday, Juniors Andrew Bryant and Ryan Qualey of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth baseball team swept the Little East Conference (LEC) weekly awards.

From Canton, Mass., Bryant was named the LEC Player of the Week after going 3-for-6 with two homers and three RBI in the Corsairs’ season-opening sweep of Farmingdale State Sunday. He was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in UMass Dartmouth’s 4-2 game-one victory; his solo-run homer in the top of the fifth gave the Corsairs a 3-2 lead. Bryant then went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the top fifth of UMassD’s 4-1 game-two triumph, which capped the scoring in the contest.

From Woburn, Mass., Qualey was named the LEC Pitcher of the Week after allowing one run on four hits while fanning eight batters over five innings in the Corsairs’ 4-1 game-two victory at Farmingdale State.

UMass Dartmouth will head south to Florida where they will first meet Fitchburg State on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Chain O’Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven.

The Expos franchises existence began with two teams in the summer of 2020. While the pandemic kept many teams down, the Expos Baseball Club won two championships during the inaugural season of the franchise. The first title came by the hands of the East Boston Expos of the Yawkey League. The second was a championship for the Merrimack Valley Expos of the Commonwealth Amateur baseball league.

The 2021 season was even busier. 

The Merrimack Valley Expos of the Commonwealth Amateur Baseball League brought in their third title. It wasn’t an easy road. They finished the rain shortened season in 6th place, which would lead them on a collision course to have to take down the #3, #2 and #1 seeds in consecutive order to capture the CABL title. With the odds stacked against them, the team stepped up and in swift action swept the Norfolk Mariners in the quarterfinals, followed by a 3-game semifinals sweep of the Weymouth Cubs. The only one standing in the way of back-to-back championships would be the Malden Marlins, a rematch of the 2020 CABL championship series. After leading the Best of 5 series 2-0, the Expos squandered the next two opportunities to win the championship, forcing a Game 5 winner take all matchup. The Expos battled to the end, winning Game 5 by a score of 3-2, and winning the series 3-2. Back-to-back champions!

The East Boston Expos of the Yawkey Baseball League finished in 4th place on the regular season. They proceeded to force a do-or-die Game 5 in the semifinals of the playoffs, and a trip to the finals in back-to-back seasons was on the line. The East Boston Expos would come up just shy of reaching the finals after losing the deciding Game 5 to the AL Thomas Athletics, who went on to win the YBL Championship.

he Middlesex Expos joined the Intercity baseball League, giving the Club three teams in the franchise. In their expansion season in the league, they finished in 2nd place during the regular season, which was followed by a run to the ICL championship. The Middlesex Expos would fell short, losing in the championship series to the Lexington Blue Sox.

As the Expos head into 2022, the three Expos franchises will set out to secure three different amateur baseball league championships – including a potential “3-peat” in the Commonwealth Amateur Baseball League.

Eric Bellavia has been Inducted into the Expos Baseball Club Hall of Fame Class of 2022 – the first player to receive such an honor.

Eric was the architect and backbone of the East Boston Knights in the Yawkey Baseball League. This team transformed into the Expos, which grew into the three franchises across many amateur baseball leagues in Massachusetts that exist today.

Eric started the East Boston Knights “EBK” in 2010 and maintained control through the 2019 summer season with an overall managing record of 168-146-5.

Eric was selected on multiple occasions to manage the Yawkey League Eastern Mass Classic Tournament All Star team, which competed against all star teams from the Boston Park League, Intercity League and Cranberry League. Eric was even chosen as an assistant coach for the 2012 Yawkey League Al-Star game at the prestigious Fenway Park.

After the 2019 summer season, his 10th season running the team, Eric stepped down and handed over the rights to the franchise to current owner, Branden Anderson. Branden turned the Knights into the Expos and has since grown the franchise to three teams. Even while “out of the game,” in his first season “retired,” Eric jumped on board the 2020 Expos in a pandemic-shortened season to help lead the Franchise to their first championship.

Eric has since sailed off into the sunset to spend time with his now high school aged son who plays baseball, but Eric has forever left his mark on the amateur baseball circuit in Boston.
