YBL Manager and Franchise of the Year Announced

The Yawkey League announced the winners of two awards, the Barbara Medieros Manager of the Year and the Franchise of the Year.

Franchise of the Year: East Boston Expos

The 2020 Franchise of the Year is the East Boston Expos. While the Expos were a new franchise in 2020, the core of the team was formed by players from the East Boston Knights. The Expos would go undefeated during the regular season. They started the playoffs by sweeping the Brighton Black Sox in the semi-finals. The Expos won the 2020 YBL championship by defeating the Charlestown Townies 3-2 in a five game series.

Barbara Medieros Manager of the Year: Branden Anderson

Branden Anderson of the East Boston Expos is the 2020 Barbara Medieros Manager of the Year. Anderson managed a team consisting of both long time YBL veterans along with a few rookies and guided them to an undefeated regular season. In the postseason, Anderson lead the Expos through two best of five rounds to capture the 2020 YBL championship.

YBL Announces Fireman of the Year and Postseason MVP

The common denominator between the the two Yawkey League awards being announced is Scott Hall of the East Boston Expos. In addition to being named the Dick Radatz Fireman of the Year, Hall was also named the David Ortiz Postseason MVP.

During the regular season Scott Hall, led the league with 3 saves. In 4 appearances, Hall only allowed 1 earned run over 9.2 innings.

In the postseason, Hall would start and win three games. Hall pitched 6 innings to win game 3 of the semifinals. In the finals, Hall would start and win Games 1 and 5 both on three days rest. For the playoffs, Hall only gave up 3 earned runs over 20 innings striking out 25.

Congratulations to Scott Hall on a fantastic regular and postseason.

2020 Gold Glove Awards Announced in YBL

The Yawkey League is proud to announce the winners of its 2020 Gold Glove Awards.

The winners include seven first time winners two of which are rookies. For Michael Oliveira this is his fifth Gold Glove and has won the last four Gold Gloves at second base. Steve Walsh had previously won a gold glove last season.

YBL Announces 2020 Silver Slugger Awards

The Yawkey League is proud to announce the winners of its 2020 Silver Slugger Award.

For Matt Costanza, Andrew Mazzone and Kenny Polanco this is their second time winning a Silver Slugger award. In addition to winning a Silver Slugger this season, Ben Adams, Michael Oliveira and Steve Walsh were also awarded Gold Gloves.

2020 Johnny Pesky Rookie of the Year in the YBL

Derek Adamson of the East Boston Expos is the winner of the 2020 Johnny Pesky Rookie of the Year. While playing in 10 of the Expos 14 regular season games, Derek hit for a .485 average scoring 11 runs while driving in 14. Defensively Derek caught one of the league’s best pitching staffs that only allowed 17 earned runs.

While a member of the Assumption baseball team, Adamson played for the Worcester Bravehearts in the Futures League in the summer of 2018 and for Top Speed Baseball in the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League in summer of 2019.

In addition to winning the 2020 Rookie of the Year award, Derek also won the Silver Slugger for catcher. Congratulations Derek on a great rookie season.

Expos Win 2020 YBL Championship

Led by playoff MVP Scott Hall, the East Boston Expos beat the Charlestown Townies 1-0 in Game 5 to capture the 2020 Yawkey League Championship.

East Boston took the early 2-0 league in the series winning games one and two. Charlestown would force the deciding game five winning games three and four.

Game 5 would feature some outstanding pitching from both teams and Scott Hall took the mound for East Boston and Billy Sullivan took the mound for Charlestown. East Boston took an early 1-0 lead that would prove to be the final.

Scott Hall of East Boston was named playoff MVP. Throughout the playoffs Hall would win 3 games including the decisive Game 5 of the finals. In his three starts Hall would post a 1.05 ERA over 20 innings.
