To nobody’s surprise, junior Ryan Qualey of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth baseball team was tabbed the Little East Conference (LEC) Pitcher of the Week.

From Woburn, Mass., Qualey threw a gem in UMass Dartmouth’s 1-0 game two win against Southern Maine. The right-handed pitcher delivered his first-career complete-game shutout and notched a career high with 12 strikeouts to improve to 2-0 on the year.

Qualey cruised through a dangerous Southern Maine lineup, forcing eight groundouts and six flyouts. Qualey got better as the game went on, he struck out one batter in the first, second, fourth, seventh, and eighth innings, picked up two K’s in the fifth and sixth, and retired the side in the third.
