After an opening day sweep at Farmingdale State Sunday, Juniors Andrew Bryant and Ryan Qualey of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth baseball team swept the Little East Conference (LEC) weekly awards.
From Canton, Mass., Bryant was named the LEC Player of the Week after going 3-for-6 with two homers and three RBI in the Corsairs’ season-opening sweep of Farmingdale State Sunday. He was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in UMass Dartmouth’s 4-2 game-one victory; his solo-run homer in the top of the fifth gave the Corsairs a 3-2 lead. Bryant then went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the top fifth of UMassD’s 4-1 game-two triumph, which capped the scoring in the contest.
From Woburn, Mass., Qualey was named the LEC Pitcher of the Week after allowing one run on four hits while fanning eight batters over five innings in the Corsairs’ 4-1 game-two victory at Farmingdale State.
UMass Dartmouth will head south to Florida where they will first meet Fitchburg State on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Chain O’Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven.
